The Assocation Respects WW1 Regiment

3rd-6th April 2014

Fifteen Members and partners of the Association were in Belgium over the period 3rd-6th April 2014, as part of a WW1 Battlefield Tour Event.

The tour started on the morning of the 3rd April where members gathered at Fort Clarence in Rochester in preparation for the cross channel crossing.

An 18 seater minibus was hired for the occassion. Following a trip under the Channel Tunnel, the party proceeded to drive to Mons in Belgium.

Organised by Graham Plumridge and David Bird, the structure of the visit consisted of a programme of site visits, and at each site a member of the Assocation presented key WW1 facts about the site, personnel or actions related to the particular site as follows...

  • 5th April - Zonnebeke WW1 Museum - All
  • 5th April - Tyne Cot Military Cemetary - All
  • 5th April - Langemarck German Cemetary - Nigel Goddard
  • 6th April - Brandhock New Military Cemetary - David Bird/Pete Power
Time was made for other activities, including group meals in the evenings, A Belgian Craft Brewery Tour,The Mennin Gate Ceremony, Ypres wall walk, and shopping and drinking time.
